For some of us, locker locks are a part of everyday life that we generally do not have to put much thought into. They keep your possessions and property safe and secure so that you don’t have to worry whenever you have to store things in your lockers. Locks are only something we think about when something goes wrong, and when something goes wrong with a lock, it tends to go terribly wrong. The following are the common hospital locker problems with regards to locks and how to solve them.
Key Broke in Lock
Sometimes keys may break whether you are trying to lockup or get in. A more annoying situation is when it happens when you are in a rush. If you are running late the last thing you would want to experience is a broken key. You can often avoid this by taking the right amount of time to properly insert the key into the locks.
But despite the precaution if such event still occurs, you may contact a locksmith, they can remove the key for you and might be even to repair it for you.
Key Won’t Insert
If your key won’t go in, it is worth checking whether you got the right key. Test new keys when you first get them cut to make sure they are working properly.
However, it’s also possible that there’s a blockage in the lock itself. DIY remedies can often cause more problems than they solve so call a reputable locksmith to investigate.
The Mechanism isn’t Working
This issue is almost always caused by a mechanical problem that is best left to the pros. It is possible to remove the lock and attempt to find the source of the problem, but often it’s not even worth trying to fix. New locks are relatively inexpensive, and some locksmiths can even have it be replaced as quickly and efficiently as possible!
The Key Won’t Run
When you are able to get the key in the lock, but not turn the key, that means your lock has seized up. There are a number of reasons this could happen, but what’s most important is to not attempt to force it. Forcing the key could result in major lock damages or the key breaking off in the lock, which just makes matters worse.
You can try using graphite or silicone spray to lubricate the lock, but if that does not work, it’s time to call in a locksmith expert so as to avoid causing any more damage.
Locker Door Won’t Latch
This is a more common issue with lockers that uses locks that uses the dead latch mechanism.
This often happens due to the lock not being properly aligned so doesn’t sit where it needs to.
If this happens because of wear and tear, this can usually be repaired with some adjustments to the lock. Sometimes it is an issue with the door, and you might need to reposition the door itself.
If you are unsure of the cause you may contact a local locksmith to investigate it as well.
