Using gym lockers can sometimes be an issue even for the best of us. We can sometimes run into trouble such as forgetting the combination or not getting the right material we need for class. To help you out we have listed the most common locker issues and some tips on how to solve them.
Opening the Lock
We sometimes forget the locker combinations. On the times we do know the combination sometimes some of us have trouble turning the dial at the right number or at the right direction. This can be more troublesome when we are in a rush, we may even get tired of trying and ultimately just quit.
Tip: You may write the combination down in more than one place. A good place is inside the cover of a daily planner. It is also a good idea to store the combination in your mobile or computer.
Finding the Locker
In the first days or weeks using your locker, there are times that we forget which one is which. This can sometimes happen even after a year.
Tip: Just like the combination, it helps to write down the locker no. and where it is located.
It also helps to note nearby landmarks, like a water fountain and such. Keep this information together with the locker combination.
Getting the Right Thing at the Right Time
If you are in an office or school setting you might not have the time to visit your locker after every class or until the next break. There are also certain times like before gym class, that you may need to visit your locker to get specific items.
Tip: Estimate how long it takes to get from one class to the next. Have a copy of the schedule on the inside of your locker. Keep in mind the 3T’s during each locker visit.
- Touch the subject name on the schedule
- Think about what you need for the class
- Take it with you
Sharing a Locker
If you are ever placed in a crowded school, there might be times that you have to share a locker with someone.
A friend may also request to store some items in because your locker might be closer to their next class. Sharing a locker can sometimes cause conflict and even lead to confusion on who owns which.
Tip: If you know you will have an issue with sharing a locker contact your school board.
You might be able to request a smaller locker that does not require you to share with anyone.
If all else simply fails, nametag all your belongings, this may seem a bit much but if you want to avoid conflict as much as possible this is your best bet.
Disorganised and Messy Locker
One of the biggest challenges anyone can face with a locker is keeping it neat. If your locker is disorganized, this might cause an issue in trying to find what you need for the next class.
Tip: Remember that having a clean and neat locker will give you more time to get to your next class.
